Tincknell Crowned Graduate Cup Champion

Harry Tincknell secured the 2009 Graduate Cup title at the final race weekend of the 2009 Formula Renault UK Championship at Brands Hatch, Kent. His first season in Formula Renault UK saw Harry up against considerably more experienced drivers; none-the-less, the
17-year-old demonstrated his on-track talent to secure the most important title of his career
to-date.

Tincknell quickly established himself as the leading rookie after a succession of strong performances, and continued to build on his momentum, allowing him to dominate the
highly-competitive class.

Tincknell qualified on the third row of the grid for round 19 and after a mature drive finished sixth, claiming enough points to secure the Graduate Cup. In round 20, despite mechanical issues, which severely compromised the handling of the car, he drove well, displaying some good defensive driving to cross the finish line 10th. As well as claiming both graduate wins, he also set the fastest graduate lap times in both races.

This season, Tincknell has achieved 11 out of 20 Graduate Cup race wins, four overall podium finishes, and two fastest laps, including a track record at Oulton Park. In an outstanding rookie season, he has already earned himself a reputation as one-to-watch for the future.

Despite a fantastic debut season, the
Exeter-based racer will not be resting on his laurels and is looking ahead to the 2010 season. “I’m really happy to win the Graduate Cup as I have achieved the goal I set myself at the start of the year,” said Harry. “My performance this year provides a good platform for 2010. We have got an extensive testing programme in place for the close season and I will be working hard to make sure I keep developing. Without doubt my focus is on the overall title next year.”

Tincknell won the Graduate Cup with 323 points, a 75-point lead on his closest rival, and finished in fifth position overall in the 2009 Formula Renault UK Championship.
